*Q.Q.C.*
Assalaamu Alaikum! :)
Hope everyone is in the best health and Imaan, insha'Allah.
I should have written this post earlier but I have been trying to be good ... studying for my last set of exams. Remember me in your du'as please *nervous*
The day arrived, Squeeky and Weebee met up by Ryerson University so they could both walk to the Student Center together. It was about 10:40am and we knew we would be a little early but realized much later ... that we were about 45 mins too early! We seriously thought we had been at the wrong place because the plan was to meet with a bunch of Ryerson sisters and brothers and a few York sisters, so that we may all get on the SCHOOL BUS (awww yes, we rode on the Magic School Bus!) going towards McMaster for the Qir'at Qur'an Competition. There are random pictures that Weebz and I took during the long wait. We were bored out of our minds because for some reason, the crew decided to leave later than scheduled. The bus ride was long and .... long haha But alhamdulillah, we made it to the University. Oh the giddiness we were experiencing!
It was quite foggy on my way downtown
This picture was to show our confusion at Ryerson. We weren't sure if we were at the correct meeting spot
This little statue man gave me quite the scare while Weebz and I were walking around the streets
When the sister's finally arrived, each of them had yummy smelling Coffee. That was when we too had our cravings for some Hot Chocolate. But to both of our unfortunate luck, the little flap would not snap down. So we had a plan, tape was our friend!
It turned out that we were both losers :(
I had never attended this event, and apparently it was their 8th annual event! I just have to say that I was very impressed with everything ... especially the beautiful arrangments for the competitors. It looked so beautiful! And the colours were co-ordinating so well aww
This was the program for the night
It began first, with the Sister's competition. This was the first year that the sister's had the opportunity of participating and wow ... masha'Allah they were incredibly good! I favoured a few who had the most beautiful Qur'anic recitation. It was just simply amazing, to have the courage to sit in front of a room of people and begin your recitation right at the point where the judges ask you to. I wish I had such beautiful recitation *sigh* Insha'Allah ... we'll see after my tajweed classes haha McMaster sister's won, by the way.
The second part was the Junior competition. One word/expression: Awwww! Masha'Allah, may Allah Swt always bless these little children and strengthen their Imaan. I think they inspired me the most ... children between the ages of 5 to 14 were reciting surah's in front of everyone, without hesitation. And yes, I did say 5 yrs old. He was the cutest little boy ever, masha'Allah. And recited a little surah for everyone. I thought it was funny when he prayed "Bismillah hir-rahman nira'him" and then paused, waiting for the audience to stop "awwing" at him!
Unfortunately, we were not able to stay and listen to the brother's recitation competition. The bus was leaving right after Maghrib salaat so we went to pray and I wanted to make a few purchases before I left. Nope, did not get the chance to buy anything from
An interesting sign was posted in the room we had our lunch
The duck tape really brings out the shirts :)
Although ... there was one very memorable and surprising experience ;) I will never forget this:

Assalaamu alaikum Rafia,
It was definitely interesting - it was also my first year attending :) Too bad the guys competition started so late, we left too because it was a long drive home, ah well.
Hahaha the day I learned why they call you "Squeeky" - ahh I won't forget it. Unless I get Alzheimers.
Yeah, I think Weebee kind of got freaked out when I introduced myself to her out of the blue. In the washroom :P I'm sorry Weebee (but I won't pay your therapy bills).
That little statue man is Egerton Ryerson - he was some famous politician or something that promoted education. I was never fond of that statue either - especially after engineering exams... felt like arguing with him but I never did.
Ryerson University on a Saturday morning... eww... I only went once on a Saturday to Ryerson and I swore I'd never do it again. (I went another time for an exam but that was out of my control of course)
Lol, I'm feeling the Sunni Delight...
Hahah oh man, good times. Lost times haha but good times.
Asmaa, I already sent you my bill in the mail. Watch out for it.
Rafoo, thank you for not mentioning the other thing about my Tim Hortons Roll up the Rim. No one needs to know.
Assalaamu Alaikum :D
Asmaa:
haha Weebz told me about you stalking her to the potty .. umm, I mean bathroom :) They need to start the program earlier next year.
ahh I won't forget it. Unless I get Alzheimers
only you Asmaa haha
Nauman:
To be perfectly honest, there were two reasons why I posted that picture:
1)It really did scare me and I wanted to remember that scare
2)I knew you would provide me with an explanation as to who he was :) haha Thanks!
I suggest that you do argue with Mr Ryerson ... and I will be right there, hiding in the bushes with my camera haha
Rooqster
Yea I liked that. Though the shirt that I bought from Maniac was "Your Mom ... has heaven under her feet" Awwwwwww.
Weebz:
Oh, I was tempted >:D
And I didn't bother writing about the struggles of just getting home haha it'd be another entry.
Darn, I've become predictable with my encyclopedia-ness. I blame this on Egerton Ryerson and his educational system! :)
FREE BUS RIDE?! Who arranged this?
Sounds like it was really nice! Gotta love those t-shirts hehe :D
Good luck on exams - last ones.. ever!
The seating arrangement is really really beautiful =)
Sounds like a wonderful time. MashAllah, the Ummah of Toronto seems very strong. I love seeing kids reciting Quran and singing nasheeds, it's so great, we do that at the end of Ramadan here usually. Anyway, Khuda Hafiz
you were downtown and didn't tell me?!!!
too much work to do :( i am not a happy camper!
Nauman:
Suuuure ... blame the scary guy!
AP:
haha It was not free, we had to pay $5. Better than the amount I was planning on spending :S
'liya:
Aww thank you! And yes, last exams, but it turns out, I may have to go through more :(
Mayya:
I'm glad you agree! It was simply gorgeous
Abd ar-Rahman:
Gosh, I hope I didn't misspell that haha JazaakAllah khair! I agree, masha'Allah our community is good here, may Allah Swt make us stronger, ameen.
Sunita:
haha You just keep poppin' outta nowhere! Yes but I was there for only a little bit :( But I've been discussing it with Raj so maybe I can make a trip??? We'll talk ;)
The "iMuslim" shirt is pretty cool too. I remember seeing a similar, "iPray" shirt at ISNA.
